Highlights of St. Charles Sister Cities Program:Â
2010 – Plans are being made for the visit of our friends from Ludwigsburg in the fall. Since there were only student exchanges in 2008 and 2009, club members are looking forward to again welcoming them into their homes and showcasing St. Charles and the area. There are always special events planned in honor of the Ludwigsburgers. Check the website for updates as plans are finalized.
2008/2009 – Student exchanges were made between Lutheran High, St. Charles High and St. Charles West High Schools. American students went to Ludwigsburg over the summer while an equal number of German students attended classes and went on field trips in the fall.
2007 – Friends from Ludwigsburg visited and were entertained with a cruise on the Mississippi, a trip to an Augusta winery and the dinner/dance/auction as some of the planned events. Host families showed guests their own special interests as well. The Arch and Hannibal are always on the top of the list as places of interest.
2006 – St. Charles Sister Cities members went to Ludwigsburg in July to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the twinning of St. Charles and Ludwigsburg.
Highlights of the trip were that of a St. Louis area banjo band that was asked to play on the stage at the Marktplatz. A church service in the magnificent palace (schloss) was given in both English and German and translated in three other languages. Hymns were sung in five languages since all of Ludwigsburg’s sister cities were represented. Elegant Sunday lunch in a privately owned castle overlooking the Neckar River was an experience not soon forgotten..
2004 – 32 Partnerschaft members arrived to join in the Lewis and Clark celebration. Among them was the outstanding Ludwigsburg Brass Quintet which played in several venues, but probably the largest was at the Foundry Arts Centre during the reception held for descendants of original families. Â
September found 16 members of Sister Cities enjoying the wonderful Venezia Fest in Ludwigsburg and the hospitality of our friends. A trip to Berlin and Dresden followed the one-week stay in Ludwigsburg
2003 – In addition to the student exchanges, which are always exciting we hosted Lord Mayor Christof Eichert and his wife, Renate for an official farewell visit to St. Charles. The Lord Mayor had decided to leave public office and return to the private sector.   He is an enthusiastic supporter of the Partnerschaft – Sister City exchange and will be sorely missed. Â
2002 – June 2002 saw 67 members of the Missouri Chorale Society being hosted in homes of Ludwigsburg families. The Choir gave several performances, formal in the Forum, informal in the MarktPlatz and one in Stuttgart in the Embassy. Oct. 5, 2002 we sent local artist, Jan Groenemann, with many of her paintings, to Ludwigsburg where she exhibited.
2001 – Oct. 1, 2001 was a major official visit of many representatives from our Sister City, Ludwigsburg, Germany, to celebrate our fifth anniversary as Sister Cities. Lord Mayor Christof Eichert and his wife, Renate, led the official delegation consisting of 8 Council members, plus 4 Officers of the Ludwigsburg – St. Charles Partnerschaft Verein. They arrived Oct. 1 and stayed until October 8, 2001. The reason for their choosing this time period is because of the St. Charles Sister Cities Buergermeister Ball, first Friday of Oct, and the St. Charles Oktoberfest that weekend.
June 6 2002 saw 17 Lutheran High students leave and later in June another group from Duchesne High left for their exchange visit. In October 2002 we welcomed over 50 Ludwigsburg students for their visit to St. Charles.Â
